INSPIRING YOUNG PEOPLE OF ALL AGES

AVSTEM

INTRO

AvSTEM Academy aims to inspire, inform and engage young people via a variety of initiatives and activities through our AVSTEM opportunities. We believe that is vital to give young people the skills and knowledge needed to make an informed decision about their educational choices and future career options.

As an organisation our objectives are to:

  • Implement and support high quality and effective opportunities for young people from all backgrounds to learn about AvSTEM subjects and their importance in society.

  • Raise awareness of career opportunities and the importance of the right qualifications within AvSTEM subjects.

  • Actively encourage that studying AvSTEM subjects is fun and creative and can empower young people with ideas and concepts.

  • Support our external partners to deliver AvSTEM engagement activities across Australia.

  • Create opportunities for schools to have a meaningful engagement with an employer and to support schools to meet the Department of Infrastructure Benchmarks.

WHAT DO WE DO?

At AvSTEM Academy we have a team of professionals and volunteers trained to deliver a core number of activities within local schools and at AvSTEM events.

All of our programs are carefully planned and  delivered by a team of highly trained educators who are passionate about inspiring young people of all ages into aviation related STEM activities.

We work with a number of schools local to our AvSTEM Academy sites and attend large events across Australia.

Our partners include airlines, institutes and aerospace companies. All project management, logistic planning, cost management, vetting and follow-up surveys are managed in-house to ensure seamless facilitation of events.

AVSTEM

AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

AvSTEM Academy engages employees of all different ages and backgrounds including apprentices, graduates and managers from a variety of aviation, engineering, maths and science disciplines.  Students are teamed with mentors from these disciplines and taught how to become ambassadors in their schools. All volunteers complete the AvSTEM Learning Ambassador Training Course and are given specific training in a number of activities before attending a school.  AvSTEM Academy also has a comprehensive safeguarding policy.

This program is designed for young girls to gain the opportunity to find out what type of work may be open to them, how to make career decisions and how these may fit in with their future aims.  The workshop highlights which job roles can suit individual personalities; these roles are not restricted to aviation industries.  This exercise highlights roles that use aviation knowledge.

NATIONAL

EMERGING LEADERS FORUM

The AvSTEM Academy National Emerging Leaders Forum is an exciting project for Australian primary and secondary school students to demonstrate their leadership skills in a professional forum.

Students interact with their mentors from the aviation industry, collaborate inn teams to prepare a presentation to the audience and work with the teammates to generate a panel discussion

Students are taught how to present in public, overcome their fears and how to invite the audience to participate and interact with them.

Emerging Leaders Forum is part of the Future leaders AVSTEM program and is supported by AvSTEM Academy. New leaders then become AvSTEM Ambassadors and are mentored into running Junior Emerging Leader Forums for their schools

The Emerging Leaders Forum project is open to all schools in Australia and is a great project to encourage leadership and planning skills.

Students learn to arrange a forum, organise junior teams and develop leadership skills.

AVSTEM

LEADERSHIP AWARDS

AvSTEM Academy is proud to work closely with Airline and Aviation partners on a variety of projects across Australia.  We are supporters of the Leaders Award where students in primary and secondary schools are invited to interview an aviation leader, identify a problem that this leader is facing and create a viable solution

Opportunities are created via Zoom  so students can talk to their mentors across the country.  The award can be delivered across curricula and is free for schools to enter.  All entries receive a named certificate.  Shortlisted entries are showcased at the ELF and awards presented to the best from each year group.
